The current workaround for this would be our Local folders feature: https://www.emclient.com/blog/em-client-local-folders-643
You can keep messages in these folders to access them only locally and not synchronize them with your mail server. The local folders can be hidden if you want but having them at the bottom of the folder list should not slow down the loading time of the app.
Or you can even use the local Archive, those messages would also be left out of search by default (but it can be enabled when needed).
Hi Olivia,
Thanks for taking time to respond to my query. Let me check the link and reproduce the steps you have advised. Thanks :)
Hi Olivia,
Tried the local folder route. I am able to export the mails to this folder. After exporting I have to delete the folder inside Local Folder as there is no option to "undisplay" or remove the folder from Local folder. Next time if I need to access this old email, then I am forced to import again. Sort of repeated Exporting and Importing whenever I need. This is cumbersome. Whereas with Outlook you just need to point to the folder and it is displayed. You just need to go to Account Settings and add one "Data File". When not needed we can remove that data file. Any ideas to achieve same steps with emClient? Is the product team thinking of adding this feature soon?
@pgs I am not sure if you understood the feature fully, you should not delete the messages in Local folders once you move them there, the idea is to keep them there.
You can either collapse the Local folders (using the arrow next to the heading) to keep the folders out of view or completely hide them from the list via unchecking the "Show local folders" in Menu>Settings>General>General, that way you would not need to import again - the folders and messages would be there when you set them to "Show" again.
Or you can just right-click a specific folder and set it to "hide" - then it will be under "More" section at the end of the list.
The idea is that you can remove the messages from your active/synchronized account folders, but have them easily available inside eM Client if you need them.
Hi Olivia, Thanks for the inputs. Let me try this approach.
With Outlook, we could have multiple archive files to help with organization. With eMC, just one "Local Folders" unless I'm missing something. Multiple local folders that can have different names would be a useful feature, as a way to organize beyond folders within the singe Local Folders, IMO.
