I pestered Apple for the same for years (for Mail on macOS) now. Unfortunately no result.
Hopefully others will vote this up.
And please - don't make the same mistake as Apple makes when displaying the raw format of a message. They even don't apply the encoding then and in most cases you end up with a nice BASE64 output. Not very helpful for inspection except when debugging the client itself.
being able to easily view additional information about an e-mail would greatly improve the app and one more thing to stick out compared to other mail apps
@movingphilipp You can already view the message source and header when you open the message (in the header menu icon), this feature idea is about having the same options from the message list (without having to open the message).
@movingphilipp @olivia_rust Oh thank you, I see it now. When viewing a message, there are two menu icons. One in the top menu and one in the message menu. Inside the message, they pretty much look the same from the available options, so I got used to using the top one which is easier to access due to be being bigger and no other buttons/toggles near it that you might accidentally press… Thanks to your message I found the option in the message menu button now though. This might not be the best design choice and I don’t know why you would actually need two menus inside a message, where most options are the same anyways. So this might be another improvement to make.
@movingphilipp This design is intentional, the top menu applies to the whole conversation, while the per-message menu is for that specific message. So if you have more than 1 message in the message conversation, you would use the per-message menu to view the message header/full code of a specific message.
It's a bit tricky finding best ways to provide a large number of options but at the same time have the design simple/clear. I just wanted to point out the option was there since from your comment it seemed you were not aware of it :)
